Quote of the Month

"It's not just self defense, it's about...self control, body discipline, and mind discipline... and breath techniques. It involes Yoga. It involves meditation. It's an art, not a sport."( Elvis Presley. )

Benefits

Benefits for Adults

PaSaRyu is a martial art style designed for all body types and structures. Whether you're short or tall, thin or overweight PaSaRyu is for you. On the physical side you will lose excess body fat while gaining muscle tone, increasing your flexibility and greatly improving your overall condition. PaSaRyu is a total martial art; however, it doesn't just improve your physical condition, but also works towards mental conditioning as well.

Today's life style is often a stressful one. Training in PaSaRyu is an excellent means of stress management because it provides an outlet for your stress as it channels this negative and unfocused energy into a positive and focused energy. PaSaRyu challenges and expands the mind to improve attitude, increase concentration skills, build confidence and to develop leadership ability.

Benefits for Youth

For youth it is obvious the benefits of learning how to defend themselves while training in PaSaRyu, but what's not so obvious are the many other benefits. One being self-discipline. Most assume that a strict discipline will be enforced in the classes, and by being in a disciplined environment, the youth will learn to be more disciplined outside the martial arts. PaSaRyu; however, employs a different theory. It stresses true "self-discipline" rather than imposed discipline which leads to a more patient approach. Keep in mind this theory doesn't mean an unstructured environment. Each school will have their own rules and will enforce those rules to their own degrees in order to maintain a fun yet teachable environment.

PaSaRyu uses positive motivation (praising/rewarding good behavior while avoiding criticism) which builds true confidence. This confidence instills in the youth the courage to try something new or different without the fear of failure. Thus, improving their self-esteem. The positive motivation is shared by not only the instructors, but also by the students towards other students. When Students encourage other students through this positive motivation it creates a positive, fun and energetic environment.

The setting of short and long term goals is also used in PaSaRyu. The students are taught they can accomplish their goals through hard work, determination, patience and proper planning. Through the martial arts students will increase their attention spans which will allow them to learn to focus, thus absorbing and retaining more knowledge. This ability to focus filters into other areas such as school work.

A Side Note

The most important thing for both adults and youth to consider when choosing a martial arts school is to understand that a martial arts instructor can be one of the most influential people in your life, especially for youth. Students should choose an instructor who will reinforce the values that are being taught in the home and set a good, stable example for yourself or your child. The quality of the instructor is much more important than the style of martial arts practiced.

Though the martial arts is excellent for getting into shape it is also very important for you to eat healthy and exercise daily as an addition to your training. This will help improve your results while increasing your energy and changing the way you feel about yourself.
